The contenders: Brgr (on 26th) and Shake Shack (at 23rd) - two highly-rated ham- burger havens.
Brgr was tasty-good, a slim yet meaty patty in between a thin, delicate bun. But Shake Shack’s creation far exceeded almost any- thing we’ve had; it had a feathery quality - like hamburger foie gras tucked into an ethereal bun.
Just to make sure it was the winner, we ordered another round.
Sunday subsided and a long week loomed ahead, so we packed and forlornly checked out. For my wife however, the trip wasn’t quite over yet.
A client from right here in New York City had left a message, asking if she could make a trip up to see him soon. This good fortune prompted her to stay another night, however, her company per diem was only $150 for lodging. Not quite what the Trump Soho offers for a night’s stay.

We went online and booked something cheaper in Midtown, grabbing a taxi and getting out across the street from Madison Square Garden.
When we arrived at the hotel, no smiling doorman and no sleek lobby adornments awaited as the gum-snapping front desk agent checked her in. We took the creaky elevator up to the sixteenth floor (“At least we didn’t get stuck!” my daughter exclaimed), strode the stale smelling hall- way to a dented door looking like it belonged on a refrigerator, and entered into the room.
The floor and bedspread were brown, stained and drab. The window view was of a brick wall. The bathroom looked as if it belonged in a bus station.
“My God, what’s that smell?!”
“Honey,” I looked at her pityingly, “I don’t think we’re in Soho anymore.”
Where were The Donald and Jeremy Piven when you needed them?
