William Penn established Chester County in 1682 as one of the first three counties in Pennsylvania; West Chester is the county seat. Other historic towns in Chester County include Kennett Square, Oxford and Phoenixville. Each has their own unique agricultural, revolutionary and industrial histories. Phoenixville boasts America’s earliest Iron and Steel forges. Kennett Square paved the way for the mushroom farming business dating back to 1885. Today it is considered the “Mushroom Capital of the World.”


The Colonial Theatre opened in 1903 in Phoenixville and was featured in the sci- ence fiction classic, “The Blob” starring Steve McQueen. QVC, the country’s pre- eminent electronic retailer is located in West Chester and their Studio Tour offers a unique look at the world of live televi- sion broadcasting.

Follow a trail of nine distinctive wineries, from the largest producer in the state - Chaddsford Winery - to the intimate VALA Family Farmed Wines. Another is Paradocx, named for the proprietors, two couples - all practicing physicians (pair of “docs”). The wineries offer tours, special events and tastings, as well.
