Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts hosts 30 changing exhibits of region- al and national significance each year.
Works by three generations of the Wyeth family are on display inside a tastefully restored gristmill at the Brandywine River Museum in nearby Pennsylvania.

Monroeville, just 12 miles east of Pittsburgh, is a wellspring of discovery, too. It’s a short drive from the Laurel Highlands where meeting planners can innovate team building around white water rafting, skiing or less challenging pursuits, such as a day at Fallingwater, the world famous Frank Lloyd Wright architectural master- piece.
“We offer so much,” says Karrie Burns, executive director of Visit Monroeville. “There is a brand new convention center
and four hotels equipped for meetings. Everyone is budget conscious, and our free shuttle service transports meeting attendees back and forth. Other advan- tages are free hotel parking and lower rates than found in Pittsburgh or other larger cities. Wonderful restaurants and picturesque parks are all within a five mile radius of our hotels and we provide a wealth of information on what to do and where to go.”
The 100,000 square-foot Monroeville Convention Center is centered in a cam- pus-like setting adjoining the newly reno- vated Doubletree Hotel. The center fea- tures a state-of-the art sound system, an on site audio-visual service company, two interactive information kiosks and two wall-mounted projection screens with g- Beacon capability. There is 1,150 square feet of kitchen/concession space and ample small meeting breakout and assembly space. With LEED-certification pending, the facility uses 20 percent less energy than typical systems and its white roof reflects sunlight for coolness.
Monroeville hotels that are fully equipped for meetings include the Doubletree, which is adjacent to the convention cen- ter, a Holiday Inn, Comfort Suites and Courtyard Monroeville. All include high- speed Internet service and many other features and amenities.
David B. West, vice president of marketing and sales for Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau, enthralled with the aesthetic grandeur evident every season of the year, is confident small meeting planners will feel the same way. “What sets the Poconos apart from cities is the fact that we are in the mountains with the elegance of facili- ties and amenities set against nature and gorgeous panoramas,” he explains.
“When you hold meetings here, views are not of parking lots but of sweeping moun- tain vistas," West continues. "When you break or hold team-building exercises, delegates have the opportunity to partake in great outdoor adventures.
