I keep my caloric/alcohol intake to myself as my family meets me back at the hotel. We walk a bit and then settle in to watch movies on the vividly-hued flat screen in our room.

Have you ever been stuck in an elevator?
I mean, stationary, not moving for minute after eternal minute? This is what hap- pened as we got to the 30th floor early that next morning.

Looking back on the scene that played out, the whole incident was funny: a sud- den stop and then - stillness. The staff was on it in a moment and they worked to get us out - or down.
Still, my wife - my claustrophobic wife - began getting edgy and nervous. I made her sit down on the floor while the engi- neer calmly assured us he’d have us free.
This is the same woman who, once, when she could not budge the heavy wooden door in what has been called the World’s Best Restaurant (NOMA in Copenhagen) - a minor freak-out ensued.
Now, here we were in the best hotel south of 32nd Street and that same crazy-eyed look began to glint like some wild mare with a burr caught under her saddle. But soon, thankfully, the elevator whirred us back down to the lobby and she extricat- ed herself as fast as humanly possible.
These things can happen anywhere. Especially in a brand new hotel property - a no-fault situation to be sure. Now, we can’t help but to joke about how we want to make up tee-shirts proclaiming, joking- ly “I survived the Trump Soho!” That afternoon, my son (14) and I decid- ed to take an hour break from his cube- folding (yes, he can actually create a paper dodecahedron) and Pegasus rend- ing to have a Burger-off competition for lunch.
