Page 69 Altera BGA Socket from Ironwood
Eagan, MN —Ironwood Electronics has introduced a new BGA socket that addresses high-perform- ance requirements for Altera’s FPGA-CBT-BGA- 6052. The contact is a stamped spring pin with 19g
actuation force per ball, and rated with a cycle life of 125,000 insertions. Low force eliminates ball sticking issues due to temperature testing. The self-inductance of the contact is 0.93nH,
its insertion loss is less than 1dB at 14.1GHz, and contact resistance is less than 16mW. Each con- tact’s current capacity is 8A at 80°C (176°F) tem- perature rise. Socket temperature range is –55 to +180°C (–67 to +356°F). The socket also includes a floating guide for precise ball to pin alignment. The specific configuration of the package to be
tested in the CBT-BGA-6052 is a BGA, 27 x 27 mm (1.06 x 1.06 in.), 1 mm pitch, 672
Meller Optics: Custom Fabricated Sapphire Wafer Carriers
Providence, RI — Custom-fabricated sapphire wafer carriers, uniform in thickness and parallelism, and durable for thinning semiconductors are available from Meller Optics. The wafer carriers have a hard-
ness of Moh 9, which is second only to diamond, and allows them to be as thin as 0.018 in. (0.46 mm) with 1.2µ uniform thickness and 10 arc/s par- allelism.

position, 26 x 26 ball array. The socket is mounted using supplied hardware on the target PCB with no soldering, and has a small footprint to accom- modate nearby passive components. The socket uses a 5-post stiffener plate to support the back side of the PCB and allows passive components to be placed between the posts. The socket has a heat-sink compression screw
integrated with a 12V axial flow fan for heat dissi- pation of 20W. This socket can be used for hand test and temperature characterization as well as
debugging applications in FPGA development. Contact: Ironwood Electronics, 1335

OVEN INTELLIGENCE
Automatically for each PCB Sapphire wafer carriers. Custom perforated with hole
patterns to fit vacuum hold-down or de-lamination fixtures, they can thin semiconductors and ensure consis- tent part-to-part uniformity. Suitable for thinning GaAs and
other semiconductor materials, the wafer carriers are available in 2 to 6 in. (5.1 to 15.24 cm) diameter sizes and can be supplied with reference flats and laser markings. Capable of withstanding repeated use, the wafer carriers are chip- and scratch- resistant, and impervious to solvents
and etchants. Contact: Meller Optics, Inc., 120
