Tigard, OR — Sensoray has developed a series of low-cost, DIN rail mountable, modular I/O meas- urement and control systems designed for machine control,

industrial process control, building

automation, and remote data acquisition. The Model 2600 series is expandable and connects a virtually unlimited number of I/O points by Ethernet to a local area network. This enables it to be monitored and controlled by a remote computer. As the series connects by Ethernet, it avoids issues related to ever-changing expansion bus standards. The systems locate I/O interfaces near them

which simplifies its wiring. Having the machine in proximity to other interfaces provides other benefits such as increasing the accuracy of temperature sen- sors. A single cable connects a computer to the entire I/O system and eliminates the unwieldy bundles of wires usually associated with remote monitoring and control. The open-frame modules are designed to quickly snap onto standard 35 mm (1.4 in.) DIN rail. Field wiring can connect the modules directly to I/O boards which makes external termination boards unnecessary. At the heart of the system is a

Model 2601 communications module which distributes power, interlock signals, and can communicate with as many as 16 I/O modules. The com- munication module also includes four RS-232/422/485 COM ports for com- municating with serial devices,

Catalyst Creates Z-Theta Systems

Waterbury, CT — Catalyst Motion Group™, a Haydon Kerk motion sys- tem integrator, has created a Z- Theta system from in-house branded products. These systems offer a com- pact and effective package to achieve rotary and linear axes in a single

including barcode scanners. A basic system is made up of a communications

module, a power supply and an Ethernet connection. When fully expanded, one communications module can provide access to hundreds of I/O points. More complex systems can be created by connecting two or more modules to a LAN through an Ethernet switch. The series includes a variety of I/O module

types, including analog I/O, digital I/O, counter, mechanical relay rack, and solid-state relay rack. Any combination of I/O modules may be connected to the communications modules. Each model uses point-of-load (POL) power supplies and optically- isolated communication circuits to avoid problem-

unit. In coordinated motion, it can then allow for helical motion paths. The systems can also be used to

move to defined linear positions, and then perform independent rotary motions. The Kerk brand ScrewRail® is the centerpiece of this develop- ment, with the linear and rotary power being supplied by Haydon and Pittman motor technology. Z-Theta systems lend themselves

to picker type applications in automat- ed kiosks, data storage libraries, and other repetitive motion tasks. Loads of up to 100 pounds and speeds in excess of 10 in./s are possible. The system from Catalyst is customizable and adaptable to a

broad range of design requirements. Contact: Haydon Kerk Motion
