Critical Healthcare State-of-the-art connector tech-
nology provides options designed to meet performance and configu- ration requirements in diverse applications from healthcare to those in rugged environments. More specifically, the combina- tion of a precision machined outer shell and stamped inter- nal finger contact provides the flexibility, quality and reliabili- ty required for critical applica- tions.
In the healthcare industry,
high-reliability receptacles are used on detector boards for CT scan equipment, I/O connectors for portable blood analyzers and implantable devices for data acquisition and transmission. They are also used in socketing transducers that monitor and regu- late vital signs, blood sugar and other bodily functions, in the signal- ing circuits for drug delivery pumps, as the power jack for medical and dental drills, and in cabling. Pins and receptacles are often
the building blocks for these interconnect sys- tems. A typical health- care application needs to connect fine gauge wires to the male and female components in cable assemblies. Mill-Max addresses
this need with pins and receptacles that provide wire termination options such as solder cups or crimp barrels. The recep- tacle is fitted with a high- reliability beryllium cop- per spring contact, which makes a secure electrical and mechanical con- tact to the mating pin. All the compo- nents are gold-plated to make them last. This design provides a gas-tight connection at the interface of the mating lead and the internal spring contact which secures it against potential oxidization and fretting corrosion.
LED Lighting Applications for LED light-
ing in aerospace, transportation and other areas can be no less demanding. Precision intercon- nects are used in control circuits, cable-to-board power connections, board-to-board daisy chaining, and communications. Manufacturers address the
evolving LED lighting require- ments with receptacles and sock- ets suitable for bi-pin bulbs and interconnects for coplanar mating of driver boards, as well as a vari- ety of through-hole and surface- mount (SMT) options. LED lighting applications,
such as strip lights, often require end-to-end mating (daisy chain- ing) of boards. For these configura- tions, designers can find through- hole and SMT interconnect solutions. Hori zon tal surface mount (HSMT) connectors are especially suited for these applications. Available in grids as fine as 0.05 in. (1.27 mm), these headers and sockets typically offer Z- bend style lead terminations, which have a low profile and make solder
