As students, you sometimes have to do research for a project, e.g. the subject- related (ISAT) prepared speech for Language. In order to gather data, you may have to interview an expert on the subject. Sometimes employees have to do research interviews at work as well. If you have never done an informational/ research interview, you may not know where to start, but aſter the first one, it becomes easier. It is important to prepare well and to ask relevant questions.

How to prepare for and conduct an informational/research interview 1. Call to request the interview and introduce yourself if you don’t know the person.

Show your idol that you know something about him/her by asking at least four open questions, e.g. You never auditioned for the role as the hero. How did it happen that you ended up playing the main character? You will also have to apply your informational interview skills when you prepare for the subject-related (ISAT) prepared speech. We discuss that in Module 6.
