WSMA High School State Honors Music Camp

This past June, 428 of Wisconsin’s finest high school musicians met each other for the very first time at UW-Green Bay. Students worked very hard with five nationally recognized conductors and 32 of our finest music educators. Throughout Honors Camp, stu- dents demonstrated exemplary behavior and musicianship. The resulting “work-in-progress” performances were wonderful and promise to be even more exciting this October at the Wisconsin State Music Conference.
The WSMA State Honors Music Project would not be possible without the dedication, effort and commitment of our volunteer staff. Honors staff members attend every rehearsal and have extended opportunities to observe the work of these brilliant
Honors Administrative Staff
Will Janssen, chair of the 2013 WSMA High School State Honors Music Project, leads the High School State Honors administrative team. He is band director at Mount Horeb High School. Kristina Stingle, orchestra director at Neenah High School, is Honors chair-elect. Bill Dennee, band director at Denmark Middle School, is the operations director and Tim Wurgler, WSMA program director, is coordinator for the project.
High School State Honors Orchestra Staff
James Kjelland, associate professor emeritus at the Bienen School of Music in Evanston, Illinois, is the conductor of the 2013 WSMA High School State Honors Orchestra. Randy Dissmore of Christian Life High School in Kenosha is the orchestra coordina- tor and cello section coach. Other section coaches include Tiffany Chang of Wauwatosa West High School (violin 1), Jill Sousek of Shawano High School (violin 2), Liz Tercek of Bradford High School in Kenosha (viola), Scott Vandermeuse of Verona High School (string bass), Jill Jaeckel of Prescott Middle School (woodwinds), Joseph Mesner of Cardinal Heights Upper Middle School in Sun Prairie (brass), Jim Hurst of Rice Lake (percussion) and Rosalie Gilbert of UW-Stevens Point (harp).

conductors and musicians. They also lead sectionals and chaper- one students throughout camp. This year’s conductors and staff were truly exceptional and certainly provided the educational and musical environment for which the program is so well known.
A special thank you to UW-Green Bay staff including Mona Christensen, John Gerow, Adam Novotny, Wayne Pierre, Pat- rick Niles, Kevin Collins, Cheryl Grosso, David Cook, Brock Neverman, Kellie DeJardin, Tyler Rindo and many other mem- bers of the UW-Green Bay administration for their assistance. Additionally, a very special thank you to Thomas K. Harden, UW-Green Bay chancellor, for his assistance in hosting our time on campus and providing the opportunity to perform in the Weidner Center.
