President Leyla Sanyer and President-Elect Jim Scheuer have been participating in the meetings and South Central Vice President Patty Schlafer has represented WMEA when they were unavailable.
WAME News
The Wisconsin Advocates for Music Education (WAME) steering committee’s major project at this time is the 2013 Leg- islative Breakfast, which will be held on Thursday morning October 24 beginning at 8:30 a.m. at Monona Terrace in con- junction with the Wisconsin State Music Conference. The cost is $12. The breakfast will feature performances by Wisconsin school musicians, as well as a keynote address by Susan Lipp, Chairman of the Board of Full Compass Systems and a cur- rent WAME steering committee member. Legislators are also invited to visit the exhibit hall after the breakfast.
Every state legislator will be invited to attend, but all WMEA members are urged to also send a personal invitation to their own representatives. A template for a per- sonal letter to your legislator is available online at
www.wmeamusic.org/attendee. Members are also encouraged to sit with their representatives at the breakfast in order to engage them in discussions about the importance of music education and about what is going on in their own music classrooms.
The WAME Facebook page (https://www.
facebook.com/WAMEWI) has been up and running for over a year now. The goal is still for EVERY Wisconsin music edu- cator to be on that page and contributing articles, surveys and ideas to move music education ahead in the state. Parents and
Wisconsin School Musician
community members can also “like” this page to be part of the discussion.
If you haven’t done so lately, please take a look at the WAME website (http://wame.
wmea.com/). A wealth of advocacy infor- mation is available at the website to help you advocate locally for your own music classroom. Members are encouraged to
be PROACTIVE in their advocacy ef- forts and to promote the many wonderful things going on in their own classrooms locally.
