New ATS Instrument Measures Cold Plate Performance


Norwood, MA — The iFLOW-200 system from Advanced Thermal Solutions assesses the thermal and hydraulic characteristics of cold plates in elec- tronics cooling. It measures the coolant’s tempera- ture at inlet and outlet, fluid flow rate and pres- sure drop, and surface temperature. The instrument can be used to simulate a


wide range of conditions to optimize a cold plate’s performance before it is commercialized or prior to its use in an actual application. It measures coolant temperature from 0 to +70°C with an accu- racy stated at ±1°C. Differential pressure of the coolant in the cold plate is measured up to 103,000 Pa (15 psi). Distilled water is the reference coolant. For test comparisons, the system’s coolingVIEW software can also calculate thermal resistance and pressure drop as a function of flow


Supplies Vaudreuil-Dorion, Canada — Aimtec has launched three new series of DC/DC converters using multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) which provide many technological advan- tages over traditional tantalum capacitors. The new AMxQ-Z con- verters provide an exceptionally low profile of only 7mm — including stand-offs — for applications in which component height is critical. According to the company,


MLCCs used in the converters with- stand high temperatures, higher voltage conditions, and reduced leak- age current better than traditional tantalum capacitors. Ceramic capac- itors can also withstand the higher reflow temperatures associated with the lead-free soldering.

Available in 2, 3, and 6-watt power ranges, the power supplies have wide (2:1) input ranges of 4.5-9, 9-18, 18-36 and 36-75VDC, stepping down to tightly regulated (±1 percent) single- and dual-outputs of ±12 and ±15VDC at efficiency ratings as high as 88 percent.
