light-based skin treatments
If your clients are suffering from
problematic skin complaints such asAcne,Rosacea and pigmentation, help themget their glowback using light-based treatments
The skin is the largest organ of the human body, and can sometimes prove to be themost troublesome formany people who suffer with Acne, Rosacea or pigmentation.
“Every woman experiences problemskin, blemishes, scarring and the advance of ageing for a variety of reasons,” saysVirg Bhaloo, director of Ecolite. “These imperfections can affect your confidence, self-esteemand overall sense of well- being.”
It’s true that skin conditions such as these can lead clients to feel embarrassed and ashamed about their looks, and suffer from psychological, emotional and physical pain. If the condition is not treated early there can be repercussions such as scarring too, which can be impossible to treat without surgical treatments or injectables.
Eddie Campbell-Adams fromEnergist says: “Post-acne scarring can often leave very noticeable deep pock-marking and disruption to the skin surface which can leavemen and women feeling self- conscious and insecure.”
It is imperative that clients take action againstAcne before it results in damaged skin, but sometimes standard beauty treatments just don’t cut it. So when troublesome skin begins to take over clients’ lives, they should turn to their ‘port in a storm’ beauty therapist looking for help and you’ll need to be on hand equipped with themost advanced tools possible to tackle their issue.
Virg agrees: “The pursuit of flawless skin with a glowing complexion is given great attention by women of all ages. But a cocktail of lotions, moisturisers and facials are not enough to address real issues such asAcne scars and blemishes.”
feeling the pressure
It doesn’t help that we are constantly bombarded with images of women in magazines, films and television programmes who have flawless skin. It can put pressure on women to look a certain way, and when their own appearance doesn’t match up to that of celebrities they begin looking further afield for solutions to their problems. Light-based treatments not only aid with easing discolouration caused by Rosacea or pigmentation, but can also treat conditions such as active Acne to prevent further scarring.
Catherine Cato,Manager at Skin First Systems says: “Clients are succumbing to the media call for the perpetuation of youthful looks, along with their own personal desire to tap into the latest anti- ageing technology - for obvious reasons, not least of which is that it works, it is now affordable and it is relatively pain free.
“As advances in light-based treatments have continued and as demand for them has risen, even the most staunch objectors have mellowed and considered integrating them in some form into their salon.”
see the light
So just how does light-based therapy work and how can it be utilised to treat clients’ skin problems?
Eddie explains: “The absorption of light at certain wavelengths in the skin causes stimulation of fibroblasts within the extra cellular matrix to produce collagen. These collagen molecules mature over time into a new, well organised matrix, smoothing out the skin, reducing fine lines and wrinkles and reducing pore size.”
By treating the skin with certain types of light therapy to address specific issues, you can create a reaction within the skin’s cells, healing from the inside out. Providing a far superior treatment to topical creams, light- based therapies get to the root of the problem to prevent furtherAcne outbreaks, ease discolouration from conditions such as pigmentation and Rosacea, and leave skin looking healthier and clearer.
DeborahMitchell, founder of Heaven Skincare says: “Light technology is effective to use on skin problems such as Acne, anti-ageing, thread veins, rejuvenation of scar tissue and general healing of the body and the sympathetic nervous system. Light therapy is an excellent alternative to intensive peels and is a much more gentle way to rejuvenate the skin.”
