98 URBAN REGENERATION
Proving a big hit in park If you are looking to create the ‘wow’ factor in a public space, then take a look at Aquila design’s decorative Thylia luminaire range. Kirklees Metropolitan Borough Council recently re-landscaped Heckmondwike Green. Geoff Farnell, Principal Landscape Architect for the Council, explained why they chose the Thylia.“Only the curved columns and stylish design of the Thylia really allowed us to achieve the ‘crown’ effect we needed. The Thylia is definitely a luminaire that won’t age over time.” Aquila supplied eight of their Thylia luminaires, all fitted with 70W HCIT lamps. Click here to request literature
Permeable paving installed Hanson Formpave, has recently had its new and unique Aquaflow Thermapave Energy System installed into the car parking areas of the Groundwork Cresswell, Ashfield & Mansfield’s head offices in Clowne, Derbyshire with excellent results. Groundwork, as approved contractors for Hanson, installed the innovative system on its own premises. Harvested and cleaned rainwater for reuse, a proven flood prevention solution, and reduced energy costs and water bills are just some of the high impact benefits already being gained from the environmentally friendly permeable paving and geothermal implementation.

The next generation of street lighting
Do walk on the grass...
A beautifully landscaped area of grass is usually off-limits to pedestrians and is certainly no place for cars and caravans, but now using the ACO GroundGuard®
ground
reinforcement and stabilisation system, attractive and versatile grassed areas can easy be created that can withstand extreme loads and high, repeated use. Developed by drainage and landscaping specialist ACO Technologies, this award-winning system is ideal for garden centres, golf clubs, caravan parks – any location where the introduction of hard landscaping would detract from its visual appeal and natural setting. Urbis’ Paseo bring new light Urbis’ Decorative Paseo luminaire has improved the standard of lighting for a pedestrian route into Leeds City Centre known as the ‘Dark Arches’. Importantly, Urbis managed to incorporate an up-lighter into the Paseo’s body. Their 70W BLV lamps cast an attractive magenta glow onto the sweeping arches. A 140W CosmoPolis lamp provides a clean white light on the road surface below. Okpaku Madedor of Network Rail Infrastructure Ltd, commented, “The positive comments received indicate the vast improvement in the quality of the roadway lighting. Urbis’ Paseo also offers a pleasing aesthetical look.”
