PAINTS, STAINS & FINISHES 41

Keim Universal Render provides a lightweight, lime based render which is breathable and will not shrink and the Granital paint finish provides a consistent and lightfast strong colour treatment.

The Universal Render is supplied ready to use, is easy to apply and can accommodate a high degree of thermal expansion and contraction whilst preventing surface crazing or cracking. The mineral paint system offers proven longlife performance because it forms a microcrystalline bond with the substrate, maintaining breathability whilst able to withstand exposure to severe weather conditions. It is available in 350 standard colours, produced using natural earth oxide colour pigments, which do not fade throughout the whole life of the paint. It is also resistant to algae and mould growth and to attack by the pollutants which are prevalent in today’s environment.

The Highland Council has also completed a programme of 6 new primary schools for the Highlands of Scotland Region using strong colours as accent highlights to designate different functions such as main entrances. The single storey buildings use timber frame construction with blockwork and render,

finished with Keim Granital to provide a longlife, fade free protection and decorative finish in preference to colour renders which were considered prone to inconsistency in finish.

As well as providing protection, the choice of paint colour can greatly affect our lives,

helping to brighten our days generally as well as identifying specific areas or activities. Colour can make a very positive contribution to our feeling of wellbeing.
