64 INTERIORS & LIGHTING Techstyle goes the
extra mile TechStyle is a new large format suspended ceiling launched by Hunter Douglas Architectural Projects and designed to meet the demand for high performance acoustic absorption coupled with improved appearance. The lightweight and fire-resistant system sets a new standard for ceiling design by using panels which are up to 8 times larger than normal. This means that the amount of visible suspension is significantly reduced which in turn improves the appearance of the ceiling and the overall feeling of space. Click here to request literature
Lighting stakes its
claim Light Projects has worked closely with Kate Wilkins Lighting Designers on another scheme involving the design and manufacture of a completely new bespoke lighting fitting. This time for a project at the Sophie’s Steakhouse Restaurant in Covent Garden in London. The original Fulham Road scheme used clusters of standard GLS lamps hung from the ceiling with different height cables. For the Covent Garden site, the inspired use of Roblon fibre optics with acrylic tear drops created a modern take with the added advantage of it being more energy efficient, with low maintenance requirements and long life-cycle performance.

A key design feature Get your flip flops and sun hats ready as Boscombe, Bournemouth, is put firmly on the British Summer holiday map. The construction of the largest artificial surf reef in Europe, anticipated to be completed this September, along with stunning beach huts for the surfers or sun lovers among us, makes this one of the largest and most exciting beach regeneration projects to date. Each beach pod includes a kitchen with exclusively designed ‘fish’ or ‘beach’ illustrations by HemingwayDesign using specially produced Formica®
Bespoke
laminate on the kitchen cupboards. These designs add a funky twist to the huts and complement the beach theme with its bright seaside colours, bringing the designs to life. Click here to request literature

Zumtobel’s luminaires have helped Colmore Plaza, an office block in Birmingham, exceed the energy requirements of Part L2A, as well as, obtaining a ‘Certificate of Conformity’ to comply with LG7 Ceiling Brightness Impression. The CIBSE SLL Code for Lighting is one of the most comprehensive guidelines available for illuminance. LG7 covers all aspects of lighting for offices and includes guidance for office spaces and surfaces, particularly the ceiling, where display screen equipment is in use and glare could be a distraction. As well as meeting LG7 requirements, the design of the lighting scheme has taken into account energy consumption and efficiency. Click here to request literature
