56 ROOFING & INSULATION
40% less drilling The innovative new ISO-TAK®
Going green? Take TIA adjustable fastening system from SFS
intec delivers rapid installation on tapered roofs. Meeting the demands of specifiers and contractors, the new system needs fewer fastener combinations and only one fastener drill setting depth. Building on SFS intec's ground-breaking ISO-TAK® TAK®
thermal break fastening system, the new ISO- TIA fastener will accommodate
tapered roofs and varying insulation thicknesses up to 515mm on concrete roof decks; applications often thought only suitable for adhesives. By adapting the design so that the fastener engages the sleeve as well as the concrete deck, the ISO-TAK®
TIA is effectively self-
adjusting to the insulation thickness. Click here to request literature
Recycling plant choses Marley Eternit Waste Recycling Group (WRG), the UK’s leading waste management and energy recovery company, has chosen Marley Eternit’s Profile 6 sheeting for its latest new plant. Due to the high temperatures and humidity created during the composting process, it was vital to select a roofing and cladding material that could cope with this aggressive environment. The building designers therefore decided to specify Marley Eternit’s Profile 6 sheeting, which has been used on many other waste management plants and agricultural buildings around the UK. This is because the fibre cement used to manufacture the Profile 6 sheets is unaffected by the harsh environments found in these types of plants.

Cold, wet summer
forecast... Kemper System, whose Kemperol products are the only cold liquid waterproofing applied ‘wet-on-wet’, report strong demand despite the current downturn in the construction industry, with sales up 38% over last year. Much is from repair and refurbishment, although new-build sales are also up by more than a quarter. This is attributed to growing awareness amongst specifiers and building owners of the benefits of ‘wet-on-wet’ over traditional cold liquid methods in cost-effectiveness, speed of installation and performance. the Terraxx path With the growing popularity of ‘green roofs’ in modern construction, Delta Membrane Systems offers Delta-Terraxx as a solution to the challenge of effective drainage and protection. Capable of meeting a variety of horizontal drainage applications, Delta-Terraxx comprises a dimpled sheet with a fused-on geotextile to form a highly effective drainage layer. Facing up, the geotextile acts as a filter protecting the air gap created by the dimpled sheet underneath. Under a covering of soil, gravel or chippings, the heat-bonded permanent filtration geotextile keeps the dimple structure from being clogged-up by sludge. Click here to request literature
Foamglass takes over
when lead roof fails When the lead roof over a swimming pool extension failed prematurely - Pittsburgh Corning’s FOAMGLAS®
cellular
glass insulation was the key to providing a high performance replacement that would last the life of the
building. The roof, which covered a swimming pool extension at an Oxfordshire rectory, had originally been designed to last for 70 years, but a combination of incorrect specification and high humidity meant that it failed after just ten. Oxford Asphalt was called in to provide a replacement that would give the proven durability the customer required. Click here to request literature
Slate-effect metal roofing sheet system Roofing and cladding company Steadmans has launched a BBA approved
New lightweight slate alternative
The latest innovation from Forticrete Roofing is MiniLite, a lightweight alternative to natural slate and an evolution of its established and highly successful Minislate. Available in Slate Grey colour, MiniLite is a slate alternative with a textured surface and thin leading edge. MiniLite is lighter than Minislate by some 36% but not too light, weighing in at around 1.8 kilogrammes per slate or 29.5 kilogrammes per square metre, ideal to stand the test of time and the British weather, especially wind uplift. MiniLite is an interlocking tile that fixes simply and securely and, once laid on the roof, gives the appearance of a traditional 20 x 12 slate.
