family business three years ago. Since then she has applied her own expertise whilst learning from her mother the in's and out's of the trade.


The business relies less on a passing trade, however, most customers are local who know Brigitte and Stephanie well and appreciate the personal one to one service. Internet shopping is, therefore, a mild threat to the enterprise, as it is to some traditional retailers, as it depends a lot on repeat business from clients who want quality clothing and know that the Old Sail Loft will stock it.


‘It’s a different type of market,’ Stephanie


says. ‘They don’t shop online and they like to come in, touch the fabric and try the clothes on.’


Like most business's 2019 has been a very difficult trading year but mother and daughter entrepreneurs are feeling optimistic following the change in fashion with the timeless brands of Barbour and Saint James leading them.


Stéphanie admits that she is very lucky, because her mother worked so hard building up such a successful business. Now Brigitte has more time to enjoy her family although she is always ready to help when necessary,


as she did when Stéphanie took maternity leave recently. That means there may be another member of the family ready to take on this successful family business in a few years........


In the meantime, Stéphanie has no plans to make any major changes, and there appear to be few threats to the business a part from the disruption caused by the occasional roadworks!


‘I count myself very lucky that all mum’s hard work has paid off for The Old Sail Loft Boutique.’ Stéphanie says. 'I look forward to taking on any new challenges that lie ahead.'
