As well as our 100% full-fibre broadband infrastructure, we have three separate 4G networks, 5G testing, and government-owned utilities including the airport and ports that make getting things done easy. While many people’s day-to-day lives mean we don’t give any of this a second thought, Digital Jersey is proud to have such a powerful proposition to shout about to the world.
It’s Digital Jersey’s job to remove the roadblocks to innovation, from making a physical move to Jersey as simple as can be, to introducing those relocating to the right people at the heart of government, in the infrastructure providers, and across private industry, so they’re surrounded with a ready-made network of people who ‘get’ what they’re trying to do, and will be there to support them every step of the way.
That’s the Jersey difference.
We’re testing a real-time island-wide air quality monitoring network, which is helping inform intelligent and evidence- led policy-making in Jersey, but is instantly an extra layer of data that Sandbox Jersey has at its disposal.
Farmers in the island are turning to tech to improve productivity and profitability as they work the land. We’re looking at how infrastructure used by our emergency services would provide rich real-time data for a whole range of community benefits. Can their cameras spot traffic problems or even littering incidents that, using artificial intelligence, could direct traffic wardens or litter pickers to the right place faster to get things back to normal sooner?
From the smallest problem to community, country or continent-changing solutions, Jersey is the testbed where no idea is too big. We’ve a thriving, growing and innovative fintech sector looking to position the island at the cutting-edge of financial industry transformation through technology. And when it comes to medtech, the world is looking to Jersey for the work it’s doing to position artificial intelligence, virtual reality and augmented reality at the heart of patient-centred care.
But to achieve all this Jersey needs the right people and, at a time when the world has a digital skills shortage, most jurisdictions are facing a growing problem.
That’s why Jersey is positioning itself on the front foot by placing digital skills at the heart of the curriculum, from early years schooling to life-long learning and upskilling or reskilling; it’s something government and industry is working closely together on.
We’ve opened the Digital Jersey Academy where the first cohort of students are now working towards their qualifications in the Digital Leadership Programme. This course is designed to equip the entrepreneurs and digital industry leaders of tomorrow with the skills employers are
