MKM BUILDING SUPPLIES, was founded in Hull in 1995, and the company’s Central Support office is still based there. Over the years it has expanded via its oner-director model and now has branches covering the UK from Inverness and Oban down to Honiton in Devon and across to Deal in Kent and Norwich. The latest branch opening was in Bolton, Lancashire.


The financial results for the year ending September 2021, although released, were not published at Companies House in time to make the financial tables.


However, the headline results are that there was a 40% increase in annual revenues and an even stronger profit performance, increasing by 63% to £84.6m. The group saw the addition of 18 branches, 12 of the by organic growth and 6 by via three bolt-on acquisitions.

The financial performance is characterised by solid results, both at the top and bottom line. During the year, initiatives undertaken enabled CO² emissions per £1 of sales to be reduced by 12%, with overall emissions increasing in-line with the size of the business. Initiatives to reduce emissions included replacing lighting with LED equivalents, switching to a new electrical tariff, delivering 100%

renewable energy, investing in solar panels, and expending the Company’s fleet of electric forklift trucks, electric plug-in hybrid cars and compressed natural gas HGV vehicles.


The company says that it continues to see strength in the


local building supply market, sustained demand in the core RMI market, as well as for new builds, post pandemic. This confidence is reflected in the Company opening new branches in Bolton, Sutherland, and Skelton in the current year.
