important that you respect one another and respect the property and equipment you’ll be using.
Now we’re ready to get started. Today will be a lot of fun, but you’ll also be learning some serious things as well, including how to save a life. Dr. Patricia Keener started Safe Sitter®
back in 1980 because she wanted
to make sure young teens (like all of you here today) knew safety and rescue skills. Why did she care so much about that? Because there was a small child whose adult babysitter didn’t know what to do when the child she was watching began to choke. By the time the child was brought to the hospital where Dr. Keener worked, it was too late and the little girl died. Dr. Keener didn’t want that to happen to anyone else, and she knew that many young teens watched their younger brothers and sisters or babysat for other children, so she created Safe Sitter®
.
Today, you’ll learn about how you can keep yourself safe, and then you’ll learn how to care for younger children when you’re in charge, such as when you’re watching younger brothers and sisters or babysitting other kids. Next, you’ll learn life-saving skills such as choking rescue, first aid, and injury management. Finally, you’ll learn business skills, such as how to manage your own babysitting jobs or other jobs you might do for friends and neighbors.
Are you ready to get started?
