LEARNING OBJECTIVES
By the end of this section, students will be able to:
• Define THREAT TO LIFE. • Explain how to assess an injury or illness based on the seriousness and urgency.
• Determine whether an illness or injury requires them to call 9-1-1, ask a back-up adult to come help, or handle themselves.
• Explain how to treat common injuries or illnesses. • Determine if someone is choking. • Demonstrate choking rescue for both child and infant.
GUIDED DISCUSSION
Children of every age need protection. As a babysitter, you accept the responsibility to provide that protection. Think of yourself as a bodyguard.
What does a bodyguard do? (Look for danger, keep people safe, act to prevent injury or harm.)
You must act like a bodyguard, by looking for danger and preventing injuries before they happen. Let’s talk about how and why injuries happen.
