NEWS/INSIGHT: LAGARDERE PARIS

New Age Beauty concept in Paris CDG T2E sets new retail standard

Société de Distribution Aéroportuaire Director General and CEO Guy Bodescot tells Andrew Pentol why a state-of-the-art T2E initiative will not be replicated in any other stores across Paris CDG and may only feature in its future Terminals 1 and 4. He also explains why perfume is no longer the main category instore, amid more emphasis on make-up.

T

he launch of the new beauty area at Paris Charles De Gaulle Terminal 2E (Hall K) was a

monumental milestone for Société de Distribution Aéroportuaire (SDA), the joint-venture between Paris Aéroport/Groupe ADP and Lagardère Travel Retail. Spanning more than 600sq m,

the ‘New Age BuY Paris Duty Free Beauty’ concept offers a number of new brands. These include Sulwhasoo, La Roche-Posay, Vichy, Diptyque and Avène. The objective of the project is to

‘re-invent beauty’, which is at the heart of the ultimate Parisian beauty

experience. It aims to do so via three pillars – expertise, entertainment and service. The New Age Beauty concept

is a key component of the new flagship T2E. Various versions will be deployed throughout the airport in all terminals. That said, the T2E version of the concept will not be displayed anywhere else in the short-term at least. SDA CEO & Director General Guy Bodescot tells TRBusiness: “The actual beauty concept on show in T2E will only be displayed in the future [revamped] Terminal 1. “It may also be implemented

in Terminal 4 when it is delivered [perhaps] after 2025. “By then the concept might have

changed anyway. The renovated T1, due to open by July 2020, is the only place we will do something very similar to what retails in T2E, albeit on a bigger scale. “We will have more moderate versions of

concept elsewhere.” Elaborating on the plan to implement a similar version of the

T2E concept in T1, Bodescot explains: “This will be a premium version of

the BuY Paris Duty Free concept with a spectacular finish we do not aim to put anywhere else. “We don’t believe French

Caribbean or North African customers, for example, would see this as too luxurious for their shopping pleasure. “It is important to be mindful of the

fact we do not only service wealthy Asian and American passengers and that some customers want easy access to duty free shopping.” Offering a visual impression of the

T2E store itself, Bodescot says: “The store is quite spacious with

“We want visitors to feel like they are in a department store which was among our objectives.”
