today, it is not surprising that iconic fashion house Louis Vuitton is now preparing to join the roll call of prestige retailers in Changi’s T3 Departure Transit Hall next January – with its first duplex boutique in a central site in Terminal 3’s Departure Transit Hall ‘new garden’.
Strong retail investment Following LV’s earlier duty free airport launches at Incheon back in 2011 and Heathrow in 2014, the company’s new 530sq m dual-storey outlet will now join DFS Group’s Wines & Spirits and Shilla Duty Free’s Cosmetics & Perfumes duplex stores at the airport. DFS Group’s initial 1,400sq ft dual-
floor duplex Changi Airport T3 liquor and tobacco store was the largest single space for liquor and tobacco ever created within any DFS store in the world when it opened on 7 May 2015. This new store formed part of DFS Group’s S$85m ($61m) ‘reinvention’ of Changi Airport’s L&T business across 85,350sq ft in all four terminals, including both single and double-storey duplex store designs. Needless to say, the continued
strong investments retailers are prepared to make at Changi Airport also reflect CAG’s continuing strength as a growing international airport, as last year’s all-time record 58.7m passenger movements (+5.9%) demonstrated. Changi Airport management
said: “In 2016, routes to South East Asia, North East Asia and Oceania contributed 90% of the growth in passenger traffic. China moved from fifth to become Changi Airport’s third-largest country market for the year, with robust traffic growth of 15%. This was on the back of very strong visitor arrivals to Singapore. A healthy increase in visitor numbers also contributed to passenger traffic growth for Thailand (+6%) and Vietnam (+8%).
MAY 2017 “There was little change in the
top 10 list of Changi Airport’s busiest routes for the year, with Jakarta remaining at the top. Kuala Lumpur moved up one notch, swapping places with Bangkok.” Changi management added that
amongst the airport’s top 20 city links, Guangzhou was the fastest growing (+21%), with Melbourne, Penang and Seoul also achieving double-digit growth. New passenger airlines last year
included West Air and Fiji Airways, while United Airlines and Singapore Airlines commenced non-stop flights to San Francisco and eight new city links were opened during the year. These new destinations within their corresponding countries included India (Amritsar and Jaipur), China (Urumqi), Australia (Canberra), New Zealand (Wellington), Fiji (Nadi), Japan (Sapporo) and Germany (Düsseldorf).
Links to Europe & Oceania Commenting on the traffic growth for the year, CAG CEO Mr Lee Seow Hiang said: “2016 was a record- breaking year for Changi Airport, with passenger traffic and cargo throughput both registering new peaks. We are also pleased with the introduction of many new city links, including to Europe and Oceania, as well as the launch of non-stop services to the United States. “Despite a backdrop of economic
and socio-political uncertainties, we maintain a positive outlook for the year ahead. We see opportunities in emerging markets within Africa and Eastern Europe. At the same time,

traffic results available at press time, the Changi Airport group generated a total of just over 9.9m passengers, breaking down into an 8.2% rise to 5.256m passengers in January and a 1.5% increase to 4.602m in February. Last, but not least, CAG also
announced in March that it has now launched its master architect tender for Terminal 5 and shortlisted three consortiums to participate. «
