HOTEL STEIN SALZBURG, AUSTRIA
The Hotel Stein, which is located in the old part of town directly on the river Salzach, reopened in March 2018 following an extensive renovation. The theme of the new Hotel Stein is ‘Salzburg meets Venice’. The connections between the two culturally and artistically relevant cities go way back. In the late 16th century, the prince-archbishop Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau commissioned the Venetian architect Vincenzo Scamozzi to create a new city plan. His successor, Markus Sittikus, employed another Italian architect, Santino Solari. They gave the historic city centre its characteristic appearance that’s world famous today — in fact, it’s been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997. Hotel Stein’s renovation included the addition
of a new rooftop bar and restaurant. The area will appeal to all the senses: it boasts a tasteful atmosphere, cool food and bar, and the modern design gives a completely new identity to this unique venue. Further to this, guests can also enjoy a new and exclusive private lounge for a maximum of 10
people with its own outside area. From the hotel, guests have a sensational overview of the famous sights of Salzburg. Just a few steps away is the Getreidegasse, the Cathedral and the birthplace of Mozart, as well as the garden of Mirabell, House of Mozart, and the Congress centre of Salzburg. Through fortunate circumstance, the owners of
the Hotel Stein also own the traditional Venetian glass manufacture Barovier & Toso. Therefore, the new building features decorative lighting and glass art on prominent display. The audience will be amazed by these handcrafted, one-of-a-kind works of art. The Salzburg-based photographer and artist
Luigi Caputo is the master behind the large-scale photographs showing snapshots of the cityscapes featured in all areas of the Hotel. They pay tribute to both cities’ strong links to art history. The artfully executed photographs integrate
magnificently with the concept and contribute to the atmosphere of the hotel. The colour blue and a spectrum of connected shades was chosen as dominant stylistic element of the interior design.
