GONE PADDLING BERGEN, NORWAY
The small, wind-beaten island of Herdla, north of Bergen, is a hidden gem, far from the crowds of the city. It’s also home to the base camp of Gone Paddling. Established in 2013 by Endre and Kristin Rosvold, the tour agency has made active tours its core business, giving guests the chance to enjoy the surrounding islands in a different, more environmentally friendly way. The tours are usually conducted in English (although they can be in other languages too for an additional cost) and include activities like kayaking, cycling, hiking, paintballing, snowshoeing and mountaineering. Gone Paddling provides all the necessary equipment needed for these adventures and is committed to introducing visitors to the best this coastal region of Norway has to offer. Along with environmentally friendly
tours, a niche product of the business is event organisation (for small groups or corporate trips) in Lavvo tents, with the option of tailor-made catering by exclusive local restaurants. The event department is experienced in setting up team
building and recreational courses, which include kayaking, outdoor cooking and climbing. The location of Gone Paddling is an island
worth visiting in its own right. Herdla is home to one of the most important Second World War military airports, which was used by the Germans from 1940 and, after the war, was converted into a military airport for the Norwegian air force. Since 1980, the island has been a natural reserve and is a mecca for birdwatchers. Here, the greater white-fronted goose, the brant and the taiga bean goose are regularly sighted, and it’s not uncommon for visitors to spot herons, Eurasian oystercatchers or the majestic white-tailed eagles. Locals and visitors come to this hidden spot
to test their spirit of adventure with kayak tours and hikes in the surrounding mountains, and to get closer to nature. Gone Paddling’s guides are experts at teaching visitors about the environment and introducing them to the philosophy of the company: when in nature, leave no trace!
Don’t miss The great adventures available in the region, including the sea to summit tour, the real seafood experience and the coasteering tour
