PAID CONTENT FOR MAD RETREAT
MAD Retreat HAUTE-NENDAZ, SWITZERLAND
High above the Rhône Valley, MAD Retreat offers a restorative escape in the Valais. Located in the mountain village of Haute-Nendaz, the retreat sits amid the dramatic landscapes of the 4 Vallées region, known in summer for its network of hiking trails, meadows and sweeping Alpine views. Rather than a traditional mountain hotel centred
solely on outdoor adventure, MAD Retreat is conceived as a wellness retreat in the Alps. At its heart stands a welcoming chalet dedicated to yoga, meditation and relaxation, surrounded by wooden mazots — historic granaries once used by mountain farmers to protect their harvests from fire. Carefully restored and thoughtfully reimagined, these structures now house many of the retreat’s 45 guest rooms, blending Alpine heritage with contemporary comfort. Several mazots date back more than a century, including one built in 1888, offering a rare opportunity to stay within a piece of living history. Nature shapes daily life here. Paths wind
through the grounds past quiet benches, terraces and a small lake before opening onto Alpine trails, forests and mountain pastures.
Wellbeing is central to each stay, with daily yoga
and meditation sessions included. Optional nature experiences are designed to connect guests more deeply with the surrounding Alpine landscape. Throughout the year, the retreat also hosts
themed programmes exploring different aspects of wellbeing, from mindfulness and movement to seasonal renewal and personal reflection. The atmosphere is relaxed and genuine. Much
like the retreat’s team — who welcome guests with warmth rather than formality — MAD Retreat encourages guests to feel comfortable being themselves. The spa continues this dialogue between nature and wellbeing. Indoor and outdoor saunas, a steam room, snow shower and heated outdoor pool create a ritual of warmth and renewal inspired by Alpine traditions. Treatment rooms and a dedicated outdoor massage mazot offer restorative therapies designed to calm both body and mind. Cuisine celebrates the flavours of the Valais region. The retreat’s kitchen focuses on vegetarian dishes prepared using seasonal produce sourced from nearby farms.
