PAID CONTENT FOR CATRINANDES

Catrinandes TONDELA, PORTUGAL

Catrinandes Retreat Center is set in a former family quinta (country house) in the foothills of the Serra do Caramulo in Molelos, a village in central Portugal. Surrounded by stone walls and wildflower gardens, the property offers a setting that feels removed from everyday life, inviting guests to slow down and settle into a more relaxed rhythm. Dating to the early 1900s, the property has

long served as a place of refuge. Its current chapter began when co-founders Helena Matos and Tânia Teixeira — pharmacists whose careers took them to London and the US — returned home to reimagine the estate as a dedicated retreat space. Since welcoming its first guests in 2022, Catrinandes has evolved into a centre for structured wellbeing programmes. The main house comprises eight thoughtfully

designed rooms in warm, natural tones, balancing heritage character with contemporary comfort. A communal dining space reinforces the feeling of a private home, where plant-based meals are prepared using locally sourced ingredients. Adjacent to the house, Rose Hall — a 60sq-metre

yoga shala and multipurpose studio — offers panoramic views across the surrounding nature. It serves as the core of the retreat experience, hosting movement practices, meditation, breathwork and group work in a light-filled environment. The centre runs a diverse calendar of curated

retreats, including women’s embodiment weekends, menopause wellbeing days, family constellation work, leadership immersions and yoga teacher-led programmes. For private groups, the entire quinta can be reserved, with programmes tailored to specific intentions. The surrounding region offers a rich blend of

culture and landscape. Molelos is one of Portugal’s last centres of black clay pottery, where artisans continue a craft passed down through generations. The Serra do Caramulo brings fresh mountain air, panoramic viewpoints and a network of hiking and cycling trails. Nearby, the Museu do Caramulo houses a remarkable collection of vintage cars and fine art, while the Mata Nacional do Bussaco invites visitors to wander through ancient woodland within a protected natural setting.
