PAID CONTENT FOR CUGÓ GRAN VITTORIOSA

Cugó Gran Vittoriosa VITTORIOSA (BIRGU), MALTA

Set within the majestic Palace of the Captains of the Galleys, Cugó Gran Vittoriosa represents a meticulous restoration of one of Malta’s most significant maritime landmarks. Located in the heart of Birgu, the property overlooks the yacht- lined marina and the Grand Harbour. While its sister property, Cugó Gran Macina, located across the water, occupies an industrial fortress, Cugó Gran Vittoriosa offers an intimate, palatial experience where 18 uniquely designed suites occupy a space once dedicated to the high-ranking officers of the Order of St John. At the heart of the property sits Sanus per

Aquam, a spa inspired by the Latin principle of ‘health through water’. This sanctuary is designed as an alternative to modern, high-tech wellness centres, instead offering a sculpted, archetypal volume reminiscent of a traditional hammam. The aesthetic draws inspiration from the ancient city of Petra and Roman architectural influences, utilising a sandstone and mud-coloured palette to foster deep tranquillity. In a departure from the highly ornamented spas often found in the Arab

world, this space relies on simple, unadulterated materials such as hard stone, wood, braided fabric and linen. Traditional microcement plastering techniques create a seamless, non-distracting atmosphere, while integrated greenery transforms the subterranean space into a verdant oasis. The spa experience focuses on holistic

balance, integrating modern hydrotherapy with traditional Mediterranean wellness rituals. The facility is divided into three zones to ensure maximum privacy. Guests transition from an elegant reception and private changing suites into specialised treatment rooms designed for massages and wellbeing. The wet area serves as the focal point, featuring a pool equipped with jets, a Finnish sauna crafted from heat-treated aspen, and a steam room enhanced with chromotherapy. Dining at the property reflects the Maltese

farm-to-fork and sea-to-table ethos, with regional ingredients at the forefront. Guests can enjoy refined interpretations of classic dishes while overlooking the marina, where superyachts sit alongside centuries-old stone fortifications.

DON’T MISS Reserve the entire wet area for a private candlelit hydrotherapy session beneath the palace vaults
