In pairs or small groups, discuss whether Ireland’s defence forces should be sent to other countries to help keep the peace. You might consider:
• Whether it is right to ask Irish soldiers to risk their lives in other countries • Whether you think the Irish army should only be for the defence of the Irish State • Whether the cost of sending soldiers abroad as peacekeepers is justified
At the end of your discussion, present your group’s decision to the rest of the class, giving the reasons for it.
