WHAT IS DEVELOPMENT? 13 How does the global community plan for development?
• At the UN in 2015, 193 countries agreed what were then called the Global Goals for Sustainable Development.
• These are17 goals around different areas of development that all 193 countries agreed to work on together before 2030.
• The goals include action on climate change, access to education, gender inequality and world hunger.
• We will look at these, now named the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in more detail in chapter 19.
