Learning is an active process. It involves good learning strategies, for example, reading newspapers and websites in the target language, being aware of and learning from your mistakes and taking notes in class. However, good mental attitudes to your own learning are also very important, and sometimes these are harder to change!

What are your strengths and weaknesses? Tick ‘Yes’, ‘No’ or ‘Sometimes’.
I am motivated to learn. I am positive about my abilities. I experiment with language and take risks. I am realistic and accept that sometimes progress will seem slow.
I am independent and look for opportunities to learn, to practise and to improve. I am able to find the right balance between accuracy and fluency. I think critically about my progress and know what I need to improve.

Anyone who ticked ‘Yes’ in the table should explain his/her strategy for achieving this positive mental attitude to learning. Share practical examples, stories and experiences to help each other.
