A SAD FAREWELL... Alan Wyatt
It is with deep regret that we write this obituary to a much cherished and very special Friend of the Club. Alan was a quiet man but with such a vibrant and loving nature that you would only be aware of it if you had the joy of knowing him. His boundless love of the Club was echoed in his oft spoken words “Just look at this beautiful place, how lucky are we to be a part of all this”. His love for Liz and his family and his dedication to the club was a reflection on the sort of person he was.
Alan was into clothing and merchandising in his younger days, having started out with a men’s shop in Jermyn Street and, as a committee member, he started the HPC Polo Shop which became a great success and has left the Club a legacy which Katy has so brilliantly continued.
Alan’s ultimate happiness was to be mounted on a horse and to either play polo or umpire and so proud of the fact that he was the oldest player at the club which did not interfere with his amazing ‘Eye for the Ball’. We all hope that they play polo in Heaven as surely he will be there and will be on the team! We wish you well Alan and will miss you greatly.
The Hon Mark Vestey
The Hon Mark Vestey Sadly Mark Vestey died unexpectedly in November 2016, a man of immeasurable patience and understanding, past Chairman of the HPA and a true follower of all things polo. In the very old days Mark kept some ponies at the Club and would come down early in the mornings each weekday and practice his riding or stick and balling and would then race back to London to get into work on time. It was through such dedication to the sport and love of the game that he was able to attain a 5 goal handicap at the height of his career.
Unfortunately his polo career came to an end when Mark broke his back out hunting and thereafter his was seen in his wheelchair supporting his family and friends from the side-lines and always with a smile on his face and a good word for everyone.
Brigadier John Wright
John Wright became Chairman of Pony Club Polo in 1990 whilst still in the army; in 1995 he retired and became Polo Manager /Chairman of Tidworth Polo Club but discovered that he did not have enough time to do both so stepped down as Chairman is 1997. John was very successful with Pony Club Polo and Chairing Tidworth which led to his appointment as Chairman of the HPA in 2013 following NCD but unfortunately he was diagnosed with cancer which forced him to step down in 2015. John died in May 2016 leaving behind his wife, Christiane, and his three children Claudia, Peter and Alicia. John wrote a very kind and enthusiastic Foreword in our Club Magazine in 2014.
