Whilst the grooms were in fierce competition, many had slipped off to prepare for the final equestrian activity of the year: the annual fancy dress competition and chukka. This year’s offerings included: cowboys and Indians, a hunt (complete with the fox), an ape and someone who very much looked like the former general manager “riding’ an Emu! Maria Elena and I did our usual double act - this year sporting lederhosen for Octoberfest complete with steins. The chukka fortunately ran without incident that is to say surprisingly nobody hit the deck! Playing polo with no helmet and consuming alcohol from a glass...HPA rules are so overrated.


Then with the horses safely to bed - back to the club house for a buffet supper and dancing. Once again the Ham Jam band played out the season in great style. We never like the farewells but going out with a great party is about as good an ending as there can be.
