2016 HAM POLO CLUB 1920s BALL

‘We beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past’ - Scott Fitzgerald

The theme for the HPC the London Polo Clubs 90th Anniversary Ball had to be the decadent ‘Roaring 20s.’

A continuous stream of chauffeured limousines arriving with guests from far flung corners of the United Kingdom and the world adorned in wonderful glamorous gowns by Ghost, Wang, Klein and not to mention some vintage gems, gentlemen turned out in white and black tie with military outfits too, a scene reflective of the Scott Fitzgerald novel the Great Gatsby. The guests had certainly pulled out their finery to fit in perfectly with the theme with outstanding results.

All this in celebration of HPC’s 90 years in the Polo World together with Facing the World Charity who provide life- changing craniofacial surgery to some of the world’s most disadvantaged and vulnerable children, two wonderful causes to support.

Champagne served to the tones of George Pelham, prior to seating for the sumptuous three course meal serenaded by Sarah Evelyn. The auction followed with furious bidding, raising a substantial amount for the charity. With all the formalities over the Band, Urban Soul Orchestra, launched in to their first song appropriately the huge hit for Pharrell Williams ‘Happy’ which had everyone up dancing in to the wee hours in the shimmering night lights.

Grandsons, William and Tim and great grandson, Finlay, of post war hero, Billy Walsh of The London Polo Club were present to continue the family connection.
