COPA KALIFA
CORONEL SUÁREZ, ARGENTINA
Organised by La Esperanza Polo Club
The tournament was organised over two days; due to unforeseen rainy conditions on the previous day the matches were all played courtesy of La Esperanza Polo Club on their grounds.
The first match was between Andiamo and Trend, and was played in the true spirit of fun open polo, with the professionals making sure that everyone had a chance to play polo and hit the ball. The ground was playing well, and both teams were evenly matched with Andiamo running out the winners by just the one goal.
The second match between Ham and Polo B.C.S. was played in the same spirit, with the silky skills of the professionals and their ability to look after the low handicap payers much appreciated. Ham won the match by 4 goals to 2. The only injury was a minor one caused by the umpire throwing the ball in hard and catching one of the payers on the thumb. Perhaps the first injury to a player caused by the umpire!
In the evening, the teams all went to Andiamo for a party (a party after polo – such a novelty!), the sponsors of the tournament, where good food and drinks were enjoyed by all, with everyone telling tales of their good shots/goals, and saying how good the ponies were. A thoroughly enjoyable time was had by all.
