The mixed doubles tournament is a special tournament for Ham; polo is one of the few sports that can be played with both men and women on the same team. The tournament is a great advertisement for this, with rules stating that each team must feature two men and two women.


This year Ham received four team entries comprising of mostly in house players and a few guests. The tournament was played out over the three day bank holiday weekend with the final set for the Monday afternoon.


On Saturday morning Nanogen put in a strong display 22 HPC • THE LONDON POLO CLUB


against Greenforde Farm to book themselves a place in the final. Sundays match was more even with Tigerstream/ Flying Foxes taking the win over Foxtrot Andina.


The final on Monday was very well matched with both teams riding off at half time with three goals on the score board. In the second half the professionals battled hard for the lead, Nanogen’s Charlie Wood and Tigerstream/Flying Foxes’ Lorenzo Larumbe vied for possession. It was Nanogen though who clicked in the final chukka and went into the lead, holding the advantage long enough to hear the bell ring and claim victory in the tournament.
