n 1.5% MPM Complex n 0.1% Piroctone Olamine

Figure 11: Perceived reduction of scalp itchiness.

l Expert grading by a trained assessor of the number of papules, comedones and pimples on one side of the face

l Questionnaire Over the period of 8 weeks, sebum

production was reduced by almost 41% (Fig 5). Thirteen out of 20 volunteers already showed reduction of sebum after 1 week into the study. An interesting correlation could be found between the measured reduction of sebum and the perceived reduction of sebum. Sixty-five percent of the volunteers reported that they felt their skin was less oily after 1 week of use of the formulation with the new complex. After 8 weeks, this number had increased to 80% (Fig 6). The number of papules, comedones and

pustules was also clearly reduced over the 8 weeks of using the formulation with the new complex (Fig 7). The volunteers reported that their skin felt more comfortable and less unpleasant. Importantly, their quality of life was improved as well (Fig 8).

Dandruff The activity of the new complex (1.5%) on dandruff was assessed in a 4-week- application study. In this study a comparison was made with a benchmark active ingredient for dandruff, Piroctone Olamine (0.1%). The study was performed as follows: l 4 weeks, application on scalp 3 times per week after washing hair with neutral shampoo

l Total of 39 volunteers with clinical score of dandruff ≥ 2 and <5.

l 19 volunteers: Piroctone Olamine (0.1 June 2020

%), 21 - 63 years old, female (11) and male (8)

l 20 volunteers: the new complex (1.5 %), 20 – 68 yrs old, female (13) and male (7)

Expert grading: l Scalp oiliness l Photography, Canon Ixus 30 (Canon Inc, Japan): general assessment of dandruff

l Micro-photography, I-scope (Moritex Corporation, Japan): assessment of dandruff

l Questionnaire An assessment using micro-

photography showed that the new complex was more effective than Piroctone Olamine (Figs 9 and 10). The use of the new complex resulted in an average reduction of dandruff with 51%. This was 35% for Piroctone Olamine. Interestingly, the new complex clearly

outperformed Piroctone Olamine in its ability to reduce itching of the scalp (Fig 11). 81% of the volunteers perceived reduction of itching after the use of the new complex, whereas only 53% of the users of Piroctone Olamine reported reduction of itching. Another striking result was that 80% of

all volunteers who had used the product with the new complex were inclined to buy the product they had used, compared to only 68% for Piroctone Olamine (Fig 12). This is clear and important indication that the new complex fulfilled their needs as ‘efficacy’ is concerned.

Conclusions Catering to the skin of Generation Z is complex, but possible when done right. CutiBiome CLR (MPM Complex)

underwent multiple efficacy studies and was clearly shown to have potent effects on the most important dermatological features of sebum-related skin problems. It importantly reduces the likelihood of the formation of acne lesions and it was shown to have potent effects on the reduction of the oiliness of both skin in the face and the scalp. These effects were not just determined scientifically, they were also perceived by the volunteers in the studies. Similarly, MPM Complex was able to reduce the number of acne lesions and dandruff, both perceivably and proven by an expert grader. MPM Complex is a Cosmos approved

active ingredient, meaning it is natural. Added to that, it is safe and leaves skin and scalp with a pleasant and comfortable feel. It solves problems which are common to Generation Z consumers. 80% of the volunteers in the dandruff study reported that they were inclined to buy the product with MPM Complex which they had been using in the past 4 weeks. This percentage was significantly lower for those volunteers who had been using the same formulation, but containing a benchmark ingredient and not MPM Complex. 80% reported a reduction of itching, a type of skin discomfort common to the skin and scalp of the generation Z consumer. MPM Complex caters to the skin of Gen

Z’ers and shows perceivable and satisfactory results. It further ‘ticks all boxes’ which are important to them. It is our belief that MPM Complex leads to a satisfied Generation Z consumer, who will be loyal to the product and brand it is contained in.
