INSIGHT ONES TO WATCH 4THE PLAYER
Henry McLean Co-founder, Commercial & Marketing Director, 4ThePlayer
Why was 4TePlayer established?
4TePlayer was established when we saw a gap in the market for a studio that prioritised the player experience first and foremost. In fact, we put that priority into our name! It's our constant reminder that, at the end of the day, we want players to have amazing entertainment experiences in our games. Of course, we want our games to be commercially successful but we strongly believe that this can work in harmony with a great player experience, and we think some providers may have lost that focus.
What differentiates 4TePlayer from other independent studios?
Every game we create has a purpose. We don’t just create an innovation in a game because ‘we think it's cool’ - it always comes back to the player and their entertainment in the game. For example, 3 Lucky Leprechauns was created to fulfil the players’ desire for a super frequent bonus entry in a UK-centric game with a theme that works. As a result, the game has been a huge hit, as it hit the right nail on the head.
Design-wise, what sets your games apart? Do you have a standout title?
One common element in most of our games is Big Reel Portrait mode. Tis is the favourite feature for a lot of players, as they can now enjoy portrait mode on a mobile device and clearly see the action. When we first released this feature, we weren’t sure how it would be received as it radically changes the presentation of the reels, spinning them right to left. But because it uses so much of the screen and is so simple to understand, players just got it immediately. In fact, the data shows players did not just ‘get it’ - they actively prefer it over classic ‘small reels’. Another popular feature is
BONUS↑UP, as seen in 3 Secret Cities and 4 Secret Pyramids. It's an engaging mechanic that takes players on a journey. Again, it has a player-centric twist: the game has the same RTP on every spin, and the longer the player waits for a bonus the better the bonus potential becomes.
Finally, our Money Ways mechanic in 4 Fantastic Fish and our upcoming game, 4 Fantastic Fish in Egypt, has been our most successful mechanic to date. Tis is a great example of where we matched a casino’s request with player needs and found the sweet
We do indeed, I am pleased to say we have quite a few top-performing titles! Our first game, 9k Yeti, continues to perform, as does its sequel, 90k Yeti Gigablox. In fact, we have the third game in the Yeti series coming later this year - this time, we’re stripping it back to be the Yeti’s first paylines game instead of one of our standard Ways To Win games. Additionally, 9k Yeti will also be appearing in retail later this year, after 4 Fantastic Fish as 4 Fantastic Fish is our top-performing title overall.
What's the vision for 4TePlayer?
Keep making great games we want to play and continuing our ‘less is more’ approach to create games with purposes and with our usual eagle- eyed attention to detail. We also intend to continue our expansion within regulated markets and to continue investment in our tech partners, Relax, Yggdrasil, and Gaming Realms. Gaming Realms will be especially important as the US is a big focus for us, both short-term and long-term. We currently have a transactional waiver in New Jersey and a provisional licence in Michigan, with more states in progress.

spot between the two. A customer asked us about making a fishing game. We were initially hesitant as there seemed to be a flurry of fishing games at the time, so we took the idea to players and asked them what they thought was frustrating about fishing games. We then worked out how we could fix those frustrations and 4 Fantastic Fish was born! Money Ways is actually making its debut into retail thanks to our recent deal with Reflex, who will be making a few of our top titles into retail games, with 4 Fantastic Fish being the first to be released this summer!
