INSIGHT IAGA SUMMIT BELFAST - JUNE 20-22, 2023

“This year’s agenda begins on

representatives from all gaming industry segments, IAGA’s annual Summit draws delegates all over the world who actively participate in interactive discussions about a wide range of relevant issues and take advantage of each day’s networking opportunities to build stronger relationships with their global colleagues.

Tis year’s agenda begins on Tuesday with a comprehensive look at potential gaming regulatory changes taking place in Northern Ireland and in the Republic of Ireland, exploring the factors that are driving potential change and the challenges the industry might face as a result. Te Summit opens with a fireside chat between John Hagan, the Managing Partner of Harris Hagan in London, and Nigel Eccles, the CEO and co-founder of Vault Labs and co- founder of FanDuel, where Nigel will share his thoughts on the factors driving gaming regulatory reform in Northern Ireland.

Te fireside chat will be followed by a roundtable discussion on the proposed gambling legislative reforms being considered in the Republic of Ireland, where experts from the Irish Bookmakers Association, BoyleSports, Arthur Cox and A&L Goodbody will share their thoughts on the proposed legislative reforms.

Tuesday afternoon, we’ll follow lunch with a panel discussion focusing on what the coming year might entail for jurisdictions beyond the Irish isle, with C-level executives from Europe, the United Kingdom and the United States opining on the largest opportunities and challenges that could arise in the immediate future. Next, our agenda will take a critical look at the presence and impact of illegal and unregulated gambling, beginning first with a brief overview on the status of North America’s $500bn illegal market provided by American Gaming Association President and CEO Bill Miller. Bill’s comments will be followed by a comprehensive discussion on the issue in the EU, US, and the UK, exploring the risks attached to grey market exposure including the fallout for consumer protection and responsible gambling.

Other topics of interest on this year’s agenda include lively discussions on the long-awaited White Paper on Gambling Reform in Britain, the future of iGaming in the United States, the growing threat match fixing poses to sports betting, and an updated look at current and potential future M&A activity in the sector. With other important panels including a regulatory roundtable and a discussion on the next generation of safer gambling and responsible gaming measures rounding out the agenda, the Summit will address many of the current “hot topics” being discussed across the industry, we’re confident that our attendees will find the sessions valuable and informative, and we appreciate the hard work of our diligent Summit Conference Planning Committee in planning this year’s conference.

As always, the Summit’s panel discussions will be accentuated by an exceptional line-up of keynote speakers. On Wednesday, our delegates will hear from Dan Carpenter, Amazon Web Services’ (AWS) Global Head of Game Tech Sales, about how transformative technologies like data analytics, innovative hardware solutions and machine learning can enable highly personalised player experiences while providing better insights to detect fraud and address evolving compliance needs.

Drawing on AWS’ extensive experience as the world’s most comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud platform that supports millions of customers globally, including key players in financial services, health care, national defense and other government agencies, Dan will demonstrate how technology can help automate identification of problematic play to reduce harm and even help reduce carbon footprints.

On Tursday morning, Jonathan Nabavi, Vice President of Public Policy and Government Affairs for the National Football League (NFL), will explore how professional sports leagues can better collaborate with industry regulators, operators and technology providers to protect game integrity, especially as sports betting continues to expand. He’ll provide an insightful look into how the NFL approaches the sports betting ecosystem and explore how stakeholders must address sports betting challenges and opportunities together.

Of course, this year’s International Gaming Summit’s comprehensive programme is accentuated by exceptional networking events, beginning Tuesday evening with a “Welcome to Northern Ireland” opening reception at Belfast’s City Hall that opened in 1906, 18 years after Queen Victoria granted Belfast the status of a city. Schedule permitting, our delegates will be joined by Belfast’s Lord Mayor who will welcome them to the city as they enjoy local delicacies paired with regional drinks.

Wednesday evening we’ll convene in Belfast’s Cathedral Quarter where we’ll hold a pub crawl between iconic Belfast pubs including the Duke of York and the Harp Bar. With live music spread throughout the different pubs, our guests will enjoy mingling with locals and enjoying what hopefully will be beautiful weather on the longest day of the year.

Tursday evening, we’ll conclude the Summit with our annual President’s Cocktail Reception and Dinner held at Hillsborough Castle, the official Northern Ireland residence of the British Royal Family. Our guests will have an unmatched opportunity to enjoy a champagne reception as they explore the Castle and its surrounding gardens, walking in the same spaces as His Majesty King Charles who recently was in residence for his annual garden party. With so many informative and entertaining events planned for our Summit this year, I’m really looking forward to joining our IAGA Officers, Trustees and Counselors in welcoming our delegates to Belfast, and proving that for IAGA and Belfast, the third time is definitely the charm!
