Texas - Public to decide on sports betting The Texas House of Representatives has given its final approval to legislation that would allow voters to decide whether to legalise online sports betting across the state but resolutions to bring casino gambling were delayed.
The sports betting proposal required 100 votes to pass and eventually got 101 votes in favour of House Joint Resolution 102. House Joint Resolution 155 to let voters decide whether to allow casinos in Texas has been delayed until Friday. Both are though expected to face opposition in the Senate.
The announcement comes as online operators become more present in local sports in particular Caliente which sponsors many clubs in first division football. The company is also the official betting house sponsor of the Mexican Baseball League and has sponsorship deals with football clubs in second division football.
The casino proposal led to the most debate. It would allow at least eight licences for casino resorts across Texas and pave the way for land-based sports betting.

US Gaming states unify to combat illegal gaming
Te Michigan Gaming Control Board has joined a coalition of seven gaming state regulators urging the US Department of Justice to make combating illegal, offshore sportsbooks and online casinos a priority.
In April, MGCB Executive Director Henry Williams and fellow state regulators asked Attorney General Merrick Garland to address the significant threats offshore illegal gambling poses that state regulators cannot tackle alone.
Other state regulators signing the letter represent Colorado, Illinois, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Jersey and Nevada, and Nevada Gaming Control Board Chairman Kirk D. Hendrick sent the letter to Attorney General Garland. Offshore operators do not undergo nor comply with strict licensing requirements imposed on legal,
regulated operators. Tey also are not subject to the scrutiny of state regulators who conduct thorough suitability and background investigations of regulated operators as required by state laws.
In the letter, the state regulators noted they are proud of the work they do to protect the public, including enforcing payout requirements and dispute resolution procedures.
“In Michigan, strict laws and rules govern internet gaming and sports betting and provide consumer protections, promote confidence and ensure fair and honest gaming,” said Williams. “We are willing to help the U.S. Department of Justice in any way we can as it pursues enforcement of laws against offshore illegal gaming enterprises that take advantage.”
