ICE 2023 is at 85 per cent Capacity

Nine months until the start of ICE 2023, Clarion confirms that 85 per cent of the available stand space is already booked.

“ICE London 2022 was the biggest, most comprehensive and most international gaming exhibition to take place since the previous edition of ICE in February 2020.”

UK EXHIBITIONS

Switzerland - Casino Luzern top earner The Grand Casino Luzern Group has landed the accolade of being the top earning casino in Switzerland, with a gross gaming income of CHF 92.89m in 2021. Thanks to a strong increase in earnings, mycasino, which belongs to the group, consolidated its leading position among Swiss online casinos with significantly increased operating income and corporate profit in 2021.

All Swiss casinos must apply for new licences. In this context, the Grand Casino Luzern wants to renew the combined concession for the casino in Lucerne and the online casino mycasino by 2044 and also open up new markets with Valais a region that has already been earmarked.

Swiss casinos paid casino levies of over CHF 272m in 2021. The largest contribution came from the Grand Casino Luzern: it has transferred CHF 43.35m to the AHV. Over the past 20 years, a total of more than CHF430m has flowed from the Grand Casino Luzern into the AHV fund. In addition to these levies, casinos at their locations pay decent profit taxes for businesses.

Switzerland - Online and land-based parity The online casino of the Stadtcasino Baden Group is now on an equal footing with the gross player income of its land-based casino business. Stadtcasino Baden AG closed the 2021 financial year with a gross player income (BSE) of CHF 103m (previous year CHF 107m) with a profit of CHF 3.5m (CHF 3.9m). At CHF 43m, the online casino jackpots.ch achieved almost the same gross player revenue as the classic casino for the first time – taking into account that the classic casino had to remain closed for 16 weeks in 2021 due to the pandemic.

Of the CHF103m in gross gaming revenue, Stadtcasino Baden AG paid a total of around CHF39.5m in the past financial year (previous year: CHF 42.5m). This mainly benefits the federal government and flows into the AHV fund. At the end of 2021, the group employed a total of 412 people at its various locations in Switzerland, Slovenia, Costa Rica and Malta, up from 377 people last year.

Te 2023 edition of ICE London, which will take place across February 7-9, is on course to match the physical size of the 2020 event with 85 per cent of available stand space already booked. Te demand has been driven by the positive experience of exhibitors attending in April coupled with the return of the major suppliers to the land-based sector.

Confirming the news, Stuart Hunter, Managing Director, Clarion Gaming, stated: “We set ourselves some demanding targets in terms of engaging with our customers and I’m delighted to say those targets have been surpassed. We have also had confirmation of the return of the brands supplying the land-based gambling sector and all of the signs are hugely positive for 2023. Te ICE brand is returning to its traditional February

dates with vigour, determination and a real sense of purpose.”

In addition to the news concerning show capacity in 2023, central London has now become a 12-minute journey for ICE attendees next year following the opening of the ‘£18.7bn high-speed train line, which reduces Heathrow/ExCeL journey time to 43-minutes.

Te door-to-door travel time from London Heathrow, a major international hub used by many ICE/iGB international show visitors, will be completed by Autumn 2022 and comprise a single uninterrupted train journey of 43 minutes. London Stanstead airport will be a 54- minute train journey with London Luton taking 34 minutes.
