SWEDEN – Swedish operator Betsson Group has acquired 75 per cent of Brazil’s Suaposta. The deal secures Betsson access to Brazil’s sports betting market, ahead of widely expected online gaming regulation in Latin America’s largest economy. Suaposta’s founders Andre Gelfi and Fernando Correa have retained a 25 per cent stake, remaining as CEO and CFO respectively. Suaposta is the first and only fully licensed Brazilian betting brand, operating in partnership with the Jockey Club racetrack in Rio Grande do Sul. The brand relaunched in 2018 after the MBO from Codere.

The Brazilian operator also offers significant existing assets – including established Google and Facebook marketing channels and local payment methods – which were seen as highly valuable for Betsson Group, considering the expected regulation of sports betting in the region. RaceBets – Betsson Group Affiliates’ multi-country online bookmaker – shares a number of key characteristics with Suaposta, offering strong synergies for post-acquisition integration.

SPAIN – EveryMatrix has successfully completed the technical assessment of its flagship product, CasinoEngine, in Spain. By offering a large selection of Spanish certified casino vendors as well as integration platform services, CasinoEngine can now assist operators in their endeavours of entering the Spanish online casino market.

CasinoEngine is fully certified and complies with the technical, security, and vulnerability standards imposed by the Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego (DGOJ).

Stian Hornsletten, Group Chief Commercial Officer of EveryMatrix, commented: “Helping casino operators to enter new jurisdictions is a key objective of our long-term plans. We are happy to be setting our footprint into new regulated markets and prove that our technology can be effectively adapted to meet specific regulatory requirements.

“Our casino product is ready to be offered to operators in one of the fastest growing markets in Europe, and this is a fantastic development for CasinoEngine, allowing us to strengthen our presence in Europe and unlock new opportunities for online operators.”

Currently, EveryMatrix holds licenses or certificates to act as a software provider to licensed operators in Malta, The United Kingdom, Denmark, Romania and Curacao. Moreover, CasinoEngine is complying with several jurisdictions including Sweden, Norway, Armenia, Georgia, Lithuania, and now Spain. CasinoEngine is also Schleswig-Holstein integrated and remote gambling certified.

Germany

Te European Commission has launched an in-depth investigation to examine whether the special tax treatment of public casino operators in Germany is compatible with EU state aid rules.

In a separate investigation, the Commission is also examining the measures taken in North Rhine-Westphalia for the public casino operator operating there.

In Germany, public casino companies are subject to a special tax regime that replaces a number of otherwise applicable general taxes, in particular corporate, income and business taxes. Te Commission has received several complaints from gambling companies concerning certain aspects of this specific tax regime and an alleged guarantee of the profitability of public casino operators.

Erik-Jan van den Berg, Aristocrat Vice-President of Sales & Business Development – EMEA, added, “As a regulated market, it’s a rarity for the Netherlands to host European debuts, so I’d like to pay tribute to Holland Casino for their confidence and urgency in bringing this new concept to market first. Fu Dai Lian Lian is currently enjoying a privileged top spot in North American performance charts and we feel certain that Dutch players will express the same levels of verve for this remarkable game family, presented on a truly exceptional and innovative hardware platform.”
