previous year whilst igaming accounted for 70 per cent of
the revenue ($406.3m) whilst sports betting saw $173.6m of which the online platforms were responsible for 94 per cent of this amount.

Tere are no commercial casinos in the state of Connecticut but there are two tribal casinos which also offer igaming. Sports betting is also offered by three online sportsbook platforms affiliated with the tribes or via the Connecticut Lottery Corporation. Te lottery is also able to offer in-person sports betting at up to 15 retail locations of which 10 were oper- ational at the end of 2023. Igaming and sports betting were legalised in the state in 2021 which permitted the tribal compacts to offers sports betting, igaming, fantasy sports and online lottery.
Te two casinos, Mohegan Sun operated by the Mohegan tribe and Foxwoods operated by the Mashantucket Pequot tribe, are among the largest in the US. Tey opened in the mid 1990s and ex- panded in 2021 to include retail sports betting. Mohegan Sun has almost 4,000 slots and 300 table games whilst Foxwoods has almost 3,000 slots and 250 gaming tables. Average monthly revenue for the casinos amounts to $10m for Mohegan Sun and $8m for Foxwoods. Competition comes via casinos in all three bor- dering states – Rhode Island, Massachusetts and New York. Gaming is regulated by the Department of Con- sumer Protection. Igaming is taxed at a rate of 18 per cent whilst online and retail sports betting is subjected to a tax rate of 13.75 per cent with a further 0.25 federal excise tax on sportsbook op- erations on wagering handle. In 2023 a bill was approved prohibiting state col- leges and universities from receiving money in return for marketing sports betting or igaming to their student bodies
BetRivers is present in several US states. A bill sponsored by two state legislators was
introduced in April 2024 in an attempt to break the monopoly on the sports
betting market but failed to make any headway.

Tere are three commercial casinos offered in Delaware at three racinos in Wilmington, Dover and Harrington which provide slots, table gaming, sports betting and igaming. Delaware Park Horse Racing and Slots in Wil- mington is a thoroughbred racetrack which offers more than 1,900 slots and 40 table games. Bally’s Dover Downs Hotel and Casino is on the same grounds as Dover International Speedway and offers harness racing whilst the casino has 2,200 slots and 33 table games. Harrington Raceway and Casino provides harness racing and the casino has 1,300 slots plus table games. Tese are operated under the authority of the Delaware Lottery. Slots at racinos were approved in 1994 whilst table gaming and limited sports betting was added in 2009 and then 2010 re- spectively. Online gaming was approved in 2012. Sports betting operations were expanded in 2018 whilst the first online betting platform was launched at the end of 2023 with exclusivity given to BetRivers, operated by Rush Street In- teractive. BetRivers is present in several US states.
