of the requirements, we are working with new games and technology everyday which means we can provide independent advice to help.

How can studios be quicker on their feet to keep up with changing regulations?

At GLI we work closely with studios globally, provide guidance and support with upcoming regulation. I work closely with several studios and the most important thing is having an open dialogue. Tere is a lot of interpretation when it comes to new regulations. It's our job to understand the intent of the regulation, clarify this with regulators so that when we are talking to studies we can deliver the precise messaging to ensure compliance.

Is there scope for greater collaboration between regulators?

Yes, across many jurisdictions you can see the collaboration in the way new regulation is presented as some are very similar. Its good to see this as it goes some way to standardisation. GLI also provides training to regulators on GLI standards which again will benefit the industry as a whole.

As mentioned before there are many variants in standards across the globe. GLI standards meet a large proportion of global regulation leaving small local adjustment where needed..

Both the German and Dutch markets have opened in recent years. What's your assessment of these two markets? Who has made a better fist of it from a regulatory perspective?

It’s great to see Te Netherlands and Germany move forward down a path of regulation. Each market is unique and has local and cultural needs which are taken into account. I don’t think it’s a case of whether one is better than the other. All markets are different based upon player behaviour, language, and cultural differences so comparisons do not make sense. Providing regulation meets the local needs and works for that market that’s all we can ask.

With that said as these markets open up and become more mature I am sure we will see regulation evolving as we see across the world.

What role does GLI take in shaping new regulation or honing difficult aspects of existing regulation?

GLI has its own set of proprietary standards which is seen as an industry best standard. GLI assists regulatory bodies globally. It starts by understanding the objectives, the law and intended regulation. We then determine if GLI standards fit these markets or need to be tailored to suit the location.

We always try to standardise where possible as this makes the compliance path much easier for everyone and to avoid reinventing the wheel. Our global expertise plays a key part in providing support to regulatory bodies. We are very humble when we see a market go live and be successful on the back of GLI’s support.
