Spanish Operator Ad Spend Rockets
Online gaming and sports betting advertising spend on the rise, while number of new players entering the market falls.

ROMANIA – Sportsbook and casino platform provider Digitain has announced the opening of its newest branch in Bucharest, Romania. Located in the heart of the city, the new office will allow Digitain to provide better service to its client base in the region and expand its presence in the European market.
The opening of the Bucharest office is part of an ongoing expansion strategy, and the first of multiple offices the company is planning to open around the world.

Online gaming and sports betting operators in Spain invested more than US$46 million in advertising during the third quarter of 2022. Tis was 35 per cent more when compared to the previous quarter and 18 per cent more than the amount spent in the same period last year.
Te data was reported as part of the financial report for the third quarter of 2022 for the online sector in Spain, prepared by the General Directorate for the Regulation of Gambling (DGOJ ) and released at the beginning of 2023.
According to sources in the sector, to which the Spanish media El País had access, “it is not by chance” that this increase had occurred in the midst of a drop in the registration of new players, which industry insiders say is a result of the decree on the advertising of online gaming.
Restrictions were pushed forward by the head of the Ministry of Consumption Alberto Garzón in November 2021. Te decree limited gambling advertising to the hours between one and five in the morning —both on television and on the radio and digital platforms — and prohibited the sponsorship of sports betting in sports.
Te report for the third quarter of 2022 revealed that the creation of new accounts in the period fell to 109,312, its lowest level since 2015 and around 20 per cent less than in the same period of 2021.
Online operators are increasing advertising in the windows where they are allowed to advertise and increasing their presence via digital platforms. Despite the fall in new players it should be noted that the third quarter report for 2022 also reported that Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) for that period was €240.83m, about US$257.31m. Tat amount reflects an increase of 18.08 per cent compared to the previous quarter and 31.29 per cent compared to the same quarter of 2021.
In December, Te Autonomous Community of Madrid has progressed with passing stricter rules for operators and new regulations over the gambling industry.
At its essence, the updated law prohibits the advertising and the promotion of betting and gaming companies via celebrities endorsements, including athletes.
France Partouche details casino renovation programme
After two years of the pandemic and a pause in investments, Group Partouche is relaunching its casino renovation programme to enrich its offering. Extensive work is underway at the Annemasse casino, allowing the opening of the left wing, the construction of an extension at the front of the building and the creation of two outdoor rooms.
Le Lyon Vert casino in La Tour-de- Salvagny is undertaking a major restructuring of the existing spaces and the creation of a major extension on two levels.
Te Pasino at Saint-Amand-les- Eaux is undertaking major works to become one of the largest establishments in France, eventually offering a food-court restaurant open to all and a completely redesigned performance hall. Outside the concession and in the immediate vicinity of the casino, the hotel overlooking the new forecourt will
have increased logging capacity. In addition, the creation of a room for immersive digital experiences will allow the organisation of multiple permanent or ephemeral events and exhibitions.
Other sites redevelopments will be initiated in the 2023 financial year in the casinos of Vichy, Divonne, Contrexéville, Middelkerke as well as in the 3.14 hotel in Cannes. Groupe Partouche saw its operating income reach €40.7m over the year compared to a loss of €45.5m in 2021, resulting in a profit of €37.1m, compared to a loss of €55.9m in 2021.
Te positive result follows the reopening of casinos on both sides of the Franco-Swiss border and the rise in the Swiss Franc over the 2022 financial year. Te operator’s operating income became positive again and reached €29.8m up €68.3m, driven by the reopening of the group’s casinos. gross gaming revenue increased by 81.8 per cent.

Aruze Gaming Europe has opened its first office in Europe in a move designed to create a dedicated sales and service team for the supplier’s partners in European, Middle Eastern and North African markets.
“Aruze’s presence is expanding rapidly in European, Middle Eastern, and North African markets and the establishment of our independent office demonstrates our continued commitment to the players and operators of these regions,” commented David Meacher.
Te office will serve as Aruze’s European headquarters moving forward. Four Aruze team members will be based at the office, with the company planning to expand throughout 2023.
