ONTARIO– Caesars has opened Ontario’s first full- service sportsbook at Caesars Windsor, an addition which Brian Masse, a local MP, believes allows the property to compete with those in the US.

The sportsbook boasts three betting windows and seven betting kiosks and is located in front of the Legends Sports Bar. There are also betting kiosks outside the Poker Room, at the main floor Skybridge entrance, and inside The House Sports Lounge. The 1,618-square-foot space also features 22 large-screen HD LED TVs..

FLORIDA – The Seminole Tribe of Florida and Seminole Gaming broke ground on January 5 at the site of the future Seminole Casino Brighton, an entirely new casino, hotel and entertainment complex to be built on the Brighton Seminole Reservation, located northwest of Lake Okeechobee. It is projected to open in late 2024, less than two years from the start of construction.

The Seminole Casino Hotel Brighton will replace the existing Seminole Brighton Casino, which first opened in 1980 and is located three miles north of the site of the future Seminole Casino Hotel Brighton. It is one of six casino complexes operated by Seminole Gaming for the Seminole Tribe of Florida.

The casino will cover a total of nearly 38,000 square feet, including space for a total of 623 slot machines and 18 tables.

Te winners of three coveted New York full scale casino licences will have to pay a licence fee of $500m within 30 days of the award of the license, although the New York Gaming Facility Board has highlighted operators could pay more, sparking a bidding war.

Existing casino operators in the state; Genting Malaysia and MGM Resorts are seen as favourites to win two of the full casino licences, allowing them to upgrade their facilities to include table gaming, but there would be question marks on whether this would provide the state with the biggest number of new jobs.

Tax on slot machines has been set at 25 per cent and table games at 10 per cent, according to rules laid out this week by the New York Gaming Facility Board.

Te board will score the submissions most heavily according to the project’s economic impact, which will account for 70 per cent of the points system, focusing on proving the ‘highest number of jobs, maximising state and local revenues and creating a gaming facility of the highest caliber with a variety of quality

amenities. CBRE’s Senior Analyst John DeCree believes the combined GGR of New York’s three fully-fledged casinos could reach as much as US$4.8bn each year.

He said: “Te NYS Gaming Facility Location Board is now expected to run a competitive process similar to the upstate casino selection on process from several years ago. In addition, the process will include input from a six-member advisory board of local officials to assess public support for proposed locations.

“Demonstrating evidence of local support and zoning approval is required for all applicants. Tis could be the most challenging part of the process, which is one of the reasons we believe Empire City and Resorts World NYC are front- runners for two of the three licences.”

Te board stated: “Revenue from new gaming facilities is expected to generate substantial fiscal benefit to New York’s public schools, local governments, and problem gambling treatment services. Te jobs, created by these casinos must deliver liveable wages to help families live, stay, and prosper in New York.”

District of Columbia Strip club sportsbook opens in Washington, D.C.

Elys Game Technology has partnered with the Cloakroom Gentlemen’s Club DC to launch the industry’s first sportsbook in a strip club in Washington, D.C.

Te project was granted a Standard Class B Joint Venture Sports Wagering Operator License by the District of Columbia’s Office of Lottery and Gaming and commenced sportsbook operations at the Over Under Sportsbook Rooftop Lounge on December 29.

“We are delighted to have been granted the first joint venture license with our partners at Cloakbook to commence sports wagering services within the Cloakroom Gentlemen’s Club and the Over Under rooftop lounge, our second small business sportsbook installation in Washington, D.C.,” stated Michele Ciavarella, Executive Chairman of Elys Game Technology.

“Elys firmly believes that this

segment of retail sports betting within neighbourhood establishments could become a key driver for local employment and economic recovery at the community level throughout the United States and Canada.”

Te Cloakbook establishment ushers in a new licensing framework developed through extensive cooperation and collaborative efforts of Elys, Cloakroom, the DSLDB and the DCOLG and the experiences gained through the Grand Central operation. Te licensing framework, pioneered in the District of Columbia, could set a precedent model for other states and jurisdictions to replicate economic opportunities of neighborhood sportsbooks in the community.

Te retail distribution model offers an alternative to mobile betting that has not commonly existed in the United States.
