than just having a static gameplay experience each time.

STEVE ROGERS Founder & CEO Playbook Fusion

Tere is a large cohort of sports fans who want to do more than simply bet on the outcome of a match or game. Tey want more direct involvement in their experience and they want to develop strategies that will enhance their gameplay. Tey want their vested interest in the game and outcome to be much deeper than the placing a standard wager, and they want to be able to pit their skills against others. Bragging rights are important to these players!

Te experience these people are seeking is more akin to mobile and video games built around a persistent strategy so the more the player engages with the game, the better they become at it and the more loyal they become. Tis makes for an increasingly rewarding experience as they slowly come to master the game and progress through the various stages and levels it contains. But these games and experiences have not been available in online sportsbooks to date.

Tis presents a significant opportunity for operators to provide players with persistent, gamified sports betting products with a deeper level of engagement than traditional betting and virtual sports, and without being reliant on the real sports calendar. Tese games and experiences have the potential to significantly enhance user engagement, increase visits to the sportsbook and boost dwell time among both new and existing player audiences.

For me, it’s about merging the thrill of sports betting with the depth and engagement of mobile and video gaming to provide a persistent, gamified sports betting experience with well- defined progression and in-game currency and rewards. But it needs to be in a format players understand – make it too complicated and they won’t spend the time (or money) getting up to speed with how it works.

While players are familiar with the thrill of real-life sports betting, the addition of new layers of engagement and light touch mechanics and gameplay modes ultimately creates an entirely new format, so it needs to be super intuitive to ensure engagement. It’s all about leading the player through the levels of the game so that they feel like they are on a journey rather

For example, Playbook Fusion’s first title, Playbook Football, provides a deep, strategy-driven betting experience that goes beyond traditional sports wagering and virtual sports by offering players ownership, progression and community engagement. Players can build their team, enter matches, earn in-game currency and rewards and climb divisions over a season as well as betting and winning real money.

Unlike traditional sports betting, it fosters long-term engagement through squad-building mechanics inspired by popular gaming franchises like FIFA Ultimate Team and Championship Manager, combined with persistent progression systems, daily rewards and in-game purchases. Tis all feeds into a betting-driven gameplay loop that integrates betting as a core part of the experience, elevating the player experience and super-charging monetisation for operators. A weekly calendar of new content ensures that players have a continual reason to come back to the game to buy the latest pack of players or in-game boosts.

Tis type of content allows operators to engage those players looking for next-level entertainment. Tis includes existing virtual sports fans wanting more ownership over the games they are playing, as well as sports punters who like to use their knowledge to place bets but don’t currently have the cadence because they can only wager on live sports every few days.

It also hits the mark with fantasy players who like to hand- pick teams and manage their squads and then compete with other players in the game. Perhaps most importantly, it allows operators to engage new audiences, and particularly those who enjoy sports-themed mobile and video games and the ownership and skill required to master titles such as FC Ultimate team and Championship Manager.

Tis presents a huge opportunity for operators to attract new customers to their sportsbooks through games such as Playbook Football, transitioning mobile gamers into bettors via a product and experience that truly excites them. For me, we have only just scratched the surface of persistent, gamified sports gaming and betting with plenty more to come.

Operators need to offer games that provide players with the opportunity to develop their skills while having a much higher level of ownership of the outcome of the game compared with more traditional gambling content.
