www.us-tech.com Molex Develops Noise Cancellation Sensor

LISLE, IL — Molex has introduced an accelerometer-based road-noise canceling (RNC) sensor, the first product in a family of active noise canceling (ANC) sensors. These sensors will play a critical role in combating unwanted road, wind and HVAC car noise, while reducing low-frequency sounds that may increase driver fatigue. Advancements in the electronics indus-

try have enabled ANC technology, more com- monly associated with high-end headphones, to transform how car manufacturers address road-based noises. Instead of installing expensive and heavy sound-absorbing mate- rials to insulate car interiors from excessive road noise, ANC sensors are designed to be installed on a car’s chassis for more accurate and efficient results. Devices mounted to wheel wells and car

LK Metrology Introduces Portable Measuring Arms

HUDSON HEIGHTS, MI — LK Metrology has expanded its FREEDOM arm range of 3D articulating arm metrology sys- tems, or portable measuring arms, with the launch of five ultra-accuracy models in both

six-axis and seven-axis variants. The 10 new arms bring the total number of different varieties available from LK to 34. Called FREEDOM ULTI-

MATE and FREEDOM ULTI- MATE SCAN, the new arms are available with measurement vol- umes from 8.2 to 14.8 ft (2.5 to 4.5m), according to model. Each complements the comparable size of existing FREEDOM CLASSIC and higher accuracy FREEDOM SELECT products with six axes designed for touch probing, as well as the seven-axis SCAN equivalents for multisensor met - ro logy including laser scanning. The ultra-accuracy arms,

frames, however, must be built to withstand the harshest conditions. Molex’s family of ANC accelerometer

and microphone sensors use Analog Devices’ Automotive Audio Bus® (A2B) technology to ensure delivery of high-fidelity audio, while significantly reducing cabling complexity, costs and weight. By pairing its sensors with the A2B network, Molex transmits noise sig- nals to the processing unit in less than 2 ms. The sensors include integral connectors and are daisy chained to simplify integration, while providing up to a 30 percent reduction in cable weight. Derived from Molex’s Mini50 Connector family, these connectors offer up to 50 percent space savings over traditional USCAR 0.64 connectors.

Moreover, Molex’s sensors are available

in different housings, including an IP69K enclosure, to ensure greater protection from harsh conditions, while enabling placement closest to the road noise. Detecting the sound at its source speeds processing of the noise- canceling signal. A2B technology also allows a higher number of signals per chain to be processed. Unlike other products on the mar- ket, Molex sensors are sensitive enough to measure and cancel road noise at slower vehicle speeds, giving designers greater flex- ibility in sensor placement while simplifying
