R&S Joins FiRa Consortium
COLUMBIA, MD — Rohde & Schwarz (R&S) has joined the FiRa™ Consortium, contributing to the organization’s efforts to establish a certification program for UWB devices. FiRa, short for “fine ranging,” is an organization dedicated to growing the UWB ecosystem by en- suring interoperability between multiple devices through compliance and certification programs. The FiRa Consortium focuses on three core UWB services: hands-free access control, location-based services, and device-to-de-
tionships with customers purely by word of mouth,” says Atkins, vice president of Specialized Coating Services. “Customers would then refer others our way as we developed a solid reputa- tion for precision and quality.” Ramirez adds that the com-
pany continues to grow its busi- ness worldwide by providing quality products, on-time deliv- ery and by promoting open com- munication with customers and suppliers. “It seems like yesterday we
started working on coatings in our garage as a way to help a friend solve a problem. The coat- ing bug bit as we solved it and knew we were destined to make this a career,” says Ramirez. “Here we are twenty-five years later, still loving what we do. Sure, there have been economic ups-and-downs — in 2001 and 2009 in particular. We thank our wonderful workforce that has been with us as well as our loyal customers and material suppli- ers. It’s been a wonderful jour-
Specialized Coating Celebrates 25th
FREMONT, CA — Despite the challenges of the coronavirus pan- demic, Specialized Coating Servic- es is celebrating its 25th anniver- sary as a leading provider of con- tract conformal coating, encapsu- lation, and ruggedization. Founded in 1996 by Rick
Ramirez and Kim Atkins, the company has grown to over 100 employees across two locations — the original location in Fremont, California, and an expansion site
ney. We look forward to continu- ing our journey of being the pre- mier conformal coating, encapsu- lation and potting service for years to come.”
COVID and Growth Specialized Coating’s care-
ful response to the pandemic has allowed it to not only survive the past year, but to grow as well. Atkins and Ramirez report that after being labeled an essential business during the early phases of lock- down in the U.S., oper- ations hardly slowed. The company lim-
ited production staff and spread out shifts to keep staff safe, the facilities clean and to minimize visitors that could jeopardize the health of its workers. By September, the
company was back to full strength and new business picked up sig- nificantly. One point the
founders make is that new projects and process development never disappeared, even in the midst of the most stringent lockdowns mandated by the government and local authorities. Many companies have taken
the last three to six months to look at changing their supply base, reevaluating and adding suppliers. After tectonic shifts in the electronics industry supply chain, while consumer demand has remained higher than ever, companies throughout the indus- try have been forced to make tough decisions. Specialized Coating Services
is a clear success story in the face of one of the most difficult years of our time. While the company’s state-of-the-art services and pro- fessional certifications have ex- panded over the years, its com- mitment to quality, customer support, superior technology and support of emerging markets has
never wavered. Contact: Specialized Coating
