Heraeus Offers Coating for ESD and Explosion Protection

West Conshohocken, PA — Based on the conductive polymer Clevios, Heraeus Epurio and Plast Composite Consulting (PCC) have developed a coat- ing for lighting unit covers in ESD-safe and explo- sion-proof areas. This is, reportedly, the first coating to combine conductivity with transparent surface sealing. In ESD environments or areas with the hazard

of explosion, the requirements placed on lighting units are extremely strict. They must remain durably resistant to chemicals and scratches and be able to reliably dissipate static charges. The new coating developed by Heraeus Epurio and PCC is designed to offer all-around protection, remain transparent and

is cost-effective to manufacture. Clevios is a conductive polymer additive that is

suitable for various plastics, such as PC, ABS, PMMA, and SAN. The additive gives the coated material its dissipative properties so that no static charges can arise that could result in sparks and explosions. The Clevios coating can be applied to plastic sur-

faces using conventional methods, after which the components are dried. Surfaces coated with Clevios become antistatic, static dissipative or conductive,

with precisely adjustable coating resistances. Contact: Heraeus, Inc., 24 Union Hill Road,

Noritake to Demonstrate Sensitive and Robust Touchscreens

Arlington Heights, IL — Noritake’s touchscreens (included on the GT series modules) are designed to work with gloves, thick glass or acrylic overlays and an air gap between the touchscreen and overlay. This reliable sensitivity is

achieved with a high signal-to-noise ratio from the fine-pitch metallic touch panel patterns. Compared with indium-tin-oxide (ITO), these panels have lower impedance and a wider touch margin. The panel’s touch settings can

be changed to adapt to different envi- ronments and enclosures. The touch controller can handle up to 10 con- current touches.

Noritake GT series touchscreen. The GT series is a group of

three different application types of touch TFT displays (GT-1P, GT-CP, and GT-EP), designed for different applications and environments. The GT-1P display type is designed as a USB touch monitor for PC/SBCs that accept DVI video signals through an HDMI connector. The display also has compliant USB touch. The GT-CP display type is driv-

en by commands sent from a host controller and designed to be used in embedded GUI applications. The GT- EP display type runs on Noritake’s iDevOS proprietary operating sys-

tem and can act as a host controller. Contact: Noritake Co., Inc.,
